Artificial intelligence is becoming a part of how people learn, create, communicate, and make decisions. This course explores the capabilities, limitations, and implications of modern generative AI technologies.
Within a framework of considering personal and societal ramifications, students will gain a foundational understanding of how modern AI systems work. They will develop practical experience using AI tools while learning to critically evaluate AI-generated information and content. Throughout the course, students will investigate and discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, including questions of integrity, authorship, intellectual property, privacy, bias, information ecosystems, employment, and environmental sustainability.
This course requires no prior technical background. Through discussion, experimentation, and reflection, students will develop the knowledge and judgment needed to participate thoughtfully and responsibly in an AI-enabled world.
